The City of Indianapolis has established an online resource for citizens to check on the status of efforts to address vacant, abandoned, and distressed properties in neighborhoods. Mayor Joe Hogsett announced the 2,000 Homes Initiative in 2018, which seeks to rehab, repair, construct, sell, or demolish 2,000 homes by 2020. The online dashboard allows the user to zoom-in to the street level and identify what action is planned or has occurred. The responsible agency is also identified, as is the funding source. Sixty-seven properties in Mapleton-Fall Creek are on the mayor’s list, most of which need repairs and/or rehabilitation. Midtown-based partners in rehab efforts include Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corporation, Near North Development Corporation, and the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership.
