On Friday, January 13, the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) announced the closure of the Central Avenue bridge over Fall Creek. According to DPW spokesman Warren Stokes, the bridge was closed earlier than expected due to erosion occurring along the east side of the bridge. Work on the bridge is part of the Central Avenue bridge replacement project that is scheduled to begin in spring of 2017. No date has been set for completion.

A section of the Fall Creek Trail between Delaware and College Ave. has been closed. Cyclists and pedestrians are urged to follow the detour signs along College and Sutherland. The popular trail will be reopened this summer when work on the Spider at Delaware and Fall Creek is completed.
DPW recommends that motorists use the following detour route:
Southbound: Turn right to head west on East Fall Creek Parkway North Drive; turn left to head south on Delaware Street; turn right to head west on East Fall Creek Parkway South Drive, and continue onto Pennsylvania Street; turn left to head east 22nd Street; then turn right to continue heading south on Central Avenue.
