Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. The Toby at Newfields, 4000 Michigan Road.
Artist Mónica Mayer kicks off a year-long creative initiative to shed light on the issue of violence against women in Indiana with a talk about feminist art from the 1970s onward, including her work, El Tendedero (The Clothesline.) In 1978, Mayer’s installation, El Tendedero (The Clothesline) at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, invited women to share their experiences with sexual assault on pink postcards which were then hung on a clothesline. The evening opens with a performance by the Asante Children’s Theatre. Organized by Women4Change, the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault, and numerous partners, the year-long effort seeks to encourage the General Assembly to strengthen state laws around sexual assault and to increase resources for sexual assault prevention and survivors’ assistance. Many other events are scheduled for October and November throughout the city. Details
