The Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corporation welcomed two families to the neighborhood this year in their brand-new Habitat for Humanity homes, one of which was built over the 14-day run of the Indiana State Fair.
More than 800 volunteers from 30 sponsors logged more than 4,000 hours to build the homes. In addition, each family contributed 300 hours of their own time to assist with construction.
Habitat for Humanity is busy throughout Midtown. According to Michael Osborne, Near North Development Corporation executive director, Habitat has been a subcontractor since 2010, building homes in the Crown Hill neighborhood. “We’ve been the master developer and provided land and subsidy to Habitat for Humanity,” he said. By the end of 2015, Osborne said the partnership will have developed 58 single family homes for home ownership. “That’s $5.5 million worth of new single-family housing along with home repairs in the neighborhood,” he said.
