Newfields Receives Lilly Grant

In December 2018 Lilly Endowment announced the winners of its competitive grant program, Strengthening Indianapolis Through Arts and Cultural Innovation. While several projects are citywide in scope and therefore could include Midtown locations, one of the largest awards went to a Midtown anchor institution: Newfields. An $8 million grant was awarded to expand festival infrastructure and programming. “We are extremely excited by Lilly Endowment’s investment in Newfields’ future. Its generosity will enable us to advance our strategic plan to create exceptional, seasonal programming at the intersection of art and nature, which is our mission,” said CEO Dr. Charles L. Venable. “The success of Winterlights has proven that Newfields’ 152-acre campus is ideal for welcoming large and diverse audiences from Indiana and beyond. The Lilly grant will advance this effort by funding several important infrastructure projects including expanded parking and a home for our new culinary arts department.” View all of the grantees at Arts & Culture Grants List.
