Tea’s Me Community Cafe is now open at the Tarkington Park Café, 3967 N. Illinois Street. The business is owned and operated by Tamika Catchings, a four-time Olympic Gold Medalist and a Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer.

Catchings lived up to her commitment to sponsor community programs with the April 3 Tourney Time basketball clinic that brought 100 participants and their families to the park.

“Coming to a new neighborhood, we wanted to give back to the community,” she said. Her Catch the Stars Foundation promotes fitness, literacy, and character development.

She’s particularly focused on entrepreneurship. “I never set out to run a café, much less two!” she said with a laugh. “But it’s important for the youth to see an African-American woman with a disability roll up her sleeves and get to work. Anything you can dream you can achieve, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work,” she added.

Hours: Monday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for breakfast, lunch, desserts, coffee and tea.
