Two families lost their homes and possessions in an August 15 fire that heavily damaged neighboring houses in the 2800 block of Washington Boulevard in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood.
The two-alarm fire was first reported at 5:12 a.m. Sunday and firefighters reached the scene within five minutes to find heavy fire showing from both homes at 2834 and 2838 N. Washington Blvd. A third building also had some exterior damage.
Six adults and two children were evacuated from the two homes. Both families had cats, several of which were unaccounted for. One of the families told investigators they first saw flames coming from electrical lines on the exterior of the house. IFD/IMPD Fire Investigations Unit is looking into the cause of the blaze.
GoFundMe campaigns have been set up for the Rodriguez and May families.
