United Way Plans Building Reuse

After a yearlong assessment and evaluation of options, United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) is exploring the potential reuse or redevelopment of its existing facility at 3901 N. Meridian St. and relocation to different headquarters in the central core of Indianapolis. In May, 2015 UWCI’s Board of Directors approved a plan to explore reuse and contracted with real estate services firm CBRE to assist with marketing the property and to seek proposals from developers. Built in 1969, UWCI’s building is in need of significant investment. Its original structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are rapidly approaching the end of their useful life. According to Mary Kinney, UWCI public/media relations director, “As we move forward with the many decisions associated with a successful transition, please know that we will be guided by the same values and commitment to responsible stewardship and transparency that we apply to all of our work.” She added that any reuse of the facility would be “consistent with long-term vision and quality-of-life plans for the neighborhood and the city.” Photo courtesy CBRE
